ELK MOUND, WI – The Cardinals had a tough match-up with the Division Three seventh ranked Mounders here last week. Elk Mound isn’t ranked for nothing and the Mounders showed it. Final score, Elk Mound 64, Valley 14.
The loss dropped the Cardinals to 9-12 overall and 3-8 in the Dunn-St. Croix conference. Valley hosted Durand this past Tuesday and will take on Elmwood/Plum City Friday night. The Cardinals will have some time off before traveling to Boyceville on Thursday, February 20, 2025, in the regular season finale. The Cardinals will find out next week who they will face in the opening round of the WIAA Tournament, and a few wins could make a big difference in their seeding.
The game with the Mounders was rough all the way around for the Cardinals. Valley committed 23 turnovers to just eight for the Mounders. Elk Mound also had 16 steals from the Cardinals while Valley had just three.
