Driver arrested for 5th OWI after fleeing on foot following crash on I94 near milepost 26

ST CROIX, COUNTY, WI – On Tuesday, December 26, 2023, at 12:30 p.m. David Joseph Andrle, 39 years of age, from Menomonie, Wisconsin has been arrested by the Wisconsin State Patrol Eau Claire Post for operating a motor vehicle under the influence, 5th offense.

At approximately 12:30 p.m. Wisconsin State Troopers were dispatched to a crash near mile marker 26 westbound on I94 which is in St. Croix County.

When heading to the crash responding units were informed that two subjects were fleeing south across the interstate on foot wearing all-black clothing and carrying backpacks. A short while later the St. Croix County Sheriff’s Department advised they had two subjects detained on 50th Ave south of the crash location matching the description of the subjects feeling from the scene.

The subjects were turned over to the Wisconsin State Patrol to continue the investigation. After further investigation, the passenger was released while the driver of the car was arrested for Operating a Motor Vehicle while under the influence (OWI) 5th Offense. The driver of the car was also charged with possession of THC and drug paraphernalia and received citations for failure to notify police of an accident and operating after revocation. The driver also had a felony warrant.

Assisting the Wisconsin State Patrol were the Woodville Police Department, the St. Croix County Sheriff’s Department, and Baldwin EMS. “Pursuant to the direction of the Wisconsin Supreme Court, as found in Supreme Court Rule 20:3.6, Trial Publicly, you are advised that a charge is merely an accusation and that a defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.”
