ELMWOOD, WI – On Thursday, October 10, 2023, from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., Sailer’s Food Market and Meat, Processing, Inc., simply known throughout the region as “Sailer’s in Elmwood” held their “100 Year Celebration.” They had a huge crowd of 785 attendees for three tours of the Elmwood retail facility and the new Sailer’s 3.0 production plant in Wilson. Even Jakes 100-year-old Aunt Charlette (Sailer) Robledo from her home (where she lives independently) in Bayport, Minnesota came to this benchmark celebration and took the tours in her wheelchair!
The company served a delicious meal of the Sailer’s meat specialties, Sailer’s Sizzlers, their famous award-winning bacon and Pa’s Ring Bologna along with tasty side salads and beverages. In addition to the good eats, there were door prize drawings every half hour along with games and more at the Elmwood store. The store was open for regular business too during the celebration.
Per the Sailer’s website, “In 1923, Frank Sailer Sr., who came to America from Austria at the age of 17, opened a Jack Sprat Food Store on Main Street in Elmwood. He decided to settle in Elmwood because he said the hills reminded him of home in Austria. Besides being a meat market, they also carried a full line of groceries. A few months after opening the new meat market, Frank Sr., and Marie had a baby boy named Frank Jr. that would eventually take over the business from his father.”
