WOODVILLE, WI – Every year at Woodville’s Annual Syttende Mai Celebration, people look forward to eating all the special Norwegian treats that taste so good and highlight the Norwegian culture. This will be the 73rd year of the Woodville Annual Syttende Mai Celebration.
The members of the Valkyrie Lodge of the Sons of Norway, enjoy making cookies like sandbakkels, rosettes, krumkakke, krokanor (crown cookie). There will be special almond cake as well as lefse fresh off the grill and everyone’s favorite, rich pudding called rømmegrøt. Polse (sausage) served in lefse will also be available.
These delicious Norwegian treats will be served on Saturday, May 18, 2024, from 9:00 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Woodville Lion’s Den/Community Center.
Sisters Jean Peterson and Judy Jones will demonstrate the making of lefse in the morning. This is a great time to pick up tips on that special skill. The intricate technique of hardanger, a Norwegian needlecraft, will also be demonstrated.
Become Norwegian for a day and join the friendly men and women of the Valkyrie Sons of Norway Lodge as they show off their cooking skills, their costumes (watch for us in the parade), and their pride in their Scandinavian heritage.
If you have children aged 8-15, ask us about a two-week overnight camp at Fall Creek, Wisconsin in July featuring Norwegian language and traditions. The local Sons of Norway lodge contributes toward campership fees for children to keep costs reasonable. Children attend from all over the country, and they almost always want to come back year after year.
