ELMWOOD, WI – The Village of Elmwood held their October monthly board meeting on Monday, October 9, 2023, at 7 p.m. in the Village Hall at the historic Elmwood Auditorium. The meeting was called to order with all board members present.
During the meeting, one topic of interest was the request by Celect communications for the board to pledge funds toward expansion of fiber optic into the village. The company requested that they pledge a portion of funds that would be then indicated in a grant to facilitate the beginning of running the fiber optic lines. A request by the board was made for an indication of subscriber rates and at the time of the meeting, none was given. Without that number notated, the board agreed that they would waive right of way fees pending a quote of service rates as opposed to a pledged amount.
Next, a motion was made for the village to participate in a complex survey of sewer and water rates. This is required to re-evaluate the water and sewage rates that community members are currently paying. Following the survey, the village would then be able to adjust water/sewer rates to edge towards fees being able to maintain the cost of the sewer plant. Currently the cost of maintaining the plant far exceeds the revenue from the fees.
