Wayne A. Sagstetter 74, of Red Wing, MN passed away at VA Veterans Hospital, Minneapolis, MN on March 23, 2024, from complications of pneumonia and COPD.

Wayne was born December 21, 1949 in Plum City, WI and was the son of Ambrose & Fannet (Gleason) Sagstetter.  He grew up in the Rock Elm Township, attended grade school at St. John the Baptist Catholic School in Plum City and graduate from Elmwood High School in 1968.  He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served four years during the Vietnam War. Wayne graduated from UW- Stout in Menomonie, WI with a BS and Masters Degree in Industrial Arts Education Magna Cum Laude.  Wayne taught in Michigan, post secondary University of Illinois and Black Hawk University, IL.  He was president of IACC, in IL.  Later he worked for the City of St. Paul, MN for 25 years before retiring.

Wayne was married to Gail Grider in 1981 and later they divorced.

He is a lifetime member of DAV, VFW, American Legion post 1350 & 1782 and the USS Shangri-La.  Wayne also volunteered at the VA in Minneapolis, working with Veterans.

Wayne’s hobbies include making his own stain glass products, fixing up his great uncle George’s Century homestead, which he purchased in 2009.  He enjoyed playing bingo and socializing with his friends.  He was an avid Packer fan and shareholder.

Wayne is survived by his brother Jerome (Jean) of Chippewa Falls and sister Ramona (Dennis) Schneider of Elmwood, nine nieces and nephews, sixteen great nieces and nephews, two great-great nieces, one uncle, Leonard (Lorraine) Asher, and a special friend Anna Christopherson.  Also many more relatives and friends.

Preceding him in death were his parents, brothers David, Stephen and his wife, Marjory, Sagstetter.

In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to the Veterans Memorial in Elmwood in care of Crain-Ottman American Legion Post 207 of Elmwood.

Memorial services will be 10:00 AM Friday April 5, 2024, at St. John The Baptist Catholic Church in Plum City.  Burial will follow the services at Sacred Heart Cemetery-Farm Hill, rural Elmwood.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the church on Friday.
