SPRING VALLEY, WI – The weather was typical for an afternoon in early December with some flurries of wet snow but, that didn’t stop some people from coming out for the Spring Valley Chamber of Commerce “Shop Spring Valley” event last Saturday, December 9, 2023. Many people also came out despite the weather for the ceremonial Christmas Tree Lighting that followed “Shop Spring Valley.” Retired optometrist Dr. Gary Lukes was honored by the Spring Valley Chamber as the first person to light the Spring Valley Christmas Tree in what is hoped to be an annual holiday happening along with the “Shop Spring Valley” event.
Dr. Lukes was chosen for this honor because of his nearly 40 years of experience caring for the eyes of the area’s people and his many contributions to the community, such as his decades of commitment to the Stagehands Theatre community theater group and his serving for years in the Spring Valley Lions Club among other things.
Prior to lighting the nice 12-foot balsam fir Christmas tree donated from the Rush River Tree Farm in Maiden Rock, erected and gaily decorated by the volunteer members of the Spring Valley Chamber of Commerce, people gathered for some entertainment.
