AMERY, WI – Fall weather is officially here. The Baldwin-Woodville Blackhawks finished the 2023 regular season with a wet and muddy win over the Amery Warriors, 22-20. Both teams battled through soaking rain and muddy field conditions.
Amery kicked off to Baldwin-Woodville to begin the game. The Blackhawks moved downfield on their first possession, mainly on the ground and short-quick passes, leading to a 16-yard passing touchdown from quarterback Cal Smith to Taden Holldorf. Cal Smith ran into the endzone for a successful two-point conversion, 8-0.
Amery’s first possession was short-lived. The Warriors fumbled the ball on the second play of their first offensive drive. Blackhawk defensive end Collin Fritts recovered the fumble. Graiden Monicken took over quarterback duties for Cal Smith and the Blackhawks midway through Baldwin-Woodville’s second offensive drive. Monicken took over the Blackhawk offense in a second-and-goal situation on Amery’s 1-yardline. However, the Blackhawks were unable to punch the ball into the endzone for a touchdown and turned the ball over to the Warriors on downs. Amery went four-and-out and was forced to punt.
