Arlene Ann Randall

0

Arlene Ann Randall, age 85, formerly of Baldwin and Woodville, passed away February 15, 2025, at Cambridge Senior Living in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. Arlene, also called Tootsie or Toots to her closest family and friends, was born on September 14, 1939, in Baldwin, WI, the daughter of Aloysius (Al) and Celia (Olson) Miller. She was united in marriage on October 20, 1956, to Vincent John Randall. Their marriage was blessed with four children: Annette, Brian, Scott, and Valerie.

Arlene worked at various jobs outside the home during the first 12 years of married life, but her true calling was being a mother and a homemaker, graciously providing a loving and nurturing home for her family.

Arlene’s faith journey was important to her, as she read inspiring books about understanding faith. It was a topic she enjoyed sharing with others. She was a regular baker and server in her Women’s Circle at Zion Lutheran Church throughout the years.

Arlene enjoyed visiting and playing cards with friends and family. She loved reunions and attending all family gatherings, both large and small. Arlene was a great cook and baker and was accomplished not only at collecting thousands of recipes, but also at preparing each of them exquisitely. Her delicious meals and desserts were usually like a smorgasbord, ample enough to feed many more than the number of guests at her table. She also enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening, canning much of her produce, and liked to travel until difficulties with her neck restricted her to a wheelchair for the last 11½ years.

Arlene will remain in the hearts of her husband, Vincent; her children, Annette Randall of Baldwin, Brian (Susan) Randall of Baldwin, Scott Randall of Eau Claire, and Valerie (Timothy) Hemenway of Eau Claire; her grandchildren, Natalie (Vince), Angie (Chad), Jeff, Jonathan, Lorelei (David), Jacqueline, Cody, Cassidy, Kei, and Alaric; 19 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; her brothers Ronald (Audrey) Miller of River Falls and Kenneth (Geri) Miller of Dresser; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her brother, Alan Miller.

A Celebration of Life will take place at 11 a.m., Saturday, February 22, 2025, at Zion Lutheran Church, 221 Lockwood St, Woodville, WI 54028. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service on Saturday in the church Fellowship Hall, where also a luncheon will follow the service. Interment will take place at Sunset Memorial Cemetery in Woodville at a later date.

We greatly appreciate Lily Home and Hospice for the high level of wonderful service they provided to our mother, Arlene, particularly by care givers, Tami and Nancy.

Western Wisconsin Health welcomes Dr. Christopher Ott, OB/GYN

By Ryma Lindquist, WWH Community Relations Director

BALDWIN, WI – Western Wisconsin Health is excited to welcome Dr. Christopher E. Ott, M.D., to our growing Women’s Health team! With over 20 years of experience in obstetrics and gynecology, Dr. Ott brings a wealth of knowledge and a deep passion for patient-centered care to our community.

A Wisconsin native, Dr. Ott earned his Bachelor of Science from the University of Wisconsin – Madison before obtaining his Doctor of Medicine from the Medical College of Wisconsin. He then completed his residency at the Medical College of Ohio, where he further developed his passion for obstetrics and gynecology.

Coming from a family of healthcare providers, Dr. Ott initially envisioned a career in surgery, blending his love for art and science. However, during medical school, he found his niche in OB/GYN—a specialty that allowed him to combine surgery with general medicine while building long-term relationships with his patients. He values the opportunity to guide women through different stages of life and believes in the importance of proactive healthcare.

Dr. Ott spent 16 years practicing in Wisconsin before joining Minnesota Women’s Care in the Twin Cities. His passion for rural healthcare and small communities brought him back to Wisconsin, where he is committed to providing high-quality care in areas where medical services are increasingly scarce.

“I feel OB is such a happy specialty,” Dr. Ott shared. “I wanted to bring people into the world, not send them out. I also enjoy working with patients who are engaged in their health—it makes such a difference in overall wellness.”

“We are so pleased to welcome Dr. Ott to our team,” said Ellen Thompson, COO of Western Wisconsin Health. “His dedication to patient care and his passion for women’s health make him a perfect fit for our organization. We know he will make a meaningful impact on the lives of many in our community.”

Outside of medicine, Dr. Ott enjoys spending time with family and his two beloved Great Pyrenees dogs. A lifelong supporter of the arts, he expresses his creativity through drawing, painting, and photography. Music is another passion—he plays guitar and drums for relaxation and has recently taken up piano lessons to challenge himself. He values lifelong learning and embraces new experiences both in and out of the medical field.

Dr. Ott is now seeing patients at Western Wisconsin Health for a full range of women’s health services, including Prenatal and Obstetric Care, Well-Woman Exams, Menopause Management, Contraceptive Counseling, Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery, Infertility Evaluation and Treatment, Hormone Therapy, Pelvic Pain and Endometriosis Care.

Dr. Ott lives by the mantra: “Be who you are. Stay humble. Work hard. Be kind.” Western Wisconsin Health is proud to have him as part of our team and looks forward to the exceptional care he will provide to our community.

For more information or to schedule an appointment with Dr. Ott, please call Western Wisconsin Health at 715-684-1111.  Western Wisconsin Health is redefining rural healthcare to help achieve our mission of building a healthier tomorrow, together.

WOODVILLE, WI – The Woodville Lions Club was busy last Sunday, February 9, and Monday, February 10, 2025.

On a chilly sunny Sunday, they hosted their Annual “Super Breakfast” (the same day the Eagles beat the Chiefs in the Super Bowl). They served up plenty of those beautiful golden-brown pancakes, fluffy scrambled eggs, toast and sweet jelly, tasty sausages, and delicious home fried potatoes. That was all you cared to eat for a Free Will donation.

The community came out again for a successful fundraiser for the Lions. The Lions send a big thank you to the Buck family that donated the REAL maple syrup. Also, thanks to Hattie Freshwater who kept her Woodville Café closed so as not to complete with the “Super Breakfast!” Thanks also to Lions Jason and Lester of Nilssen’s Foods – Baldwin! And thanks to all who came to enjoy a “Super Breakfast” at the Lions Den, it was another good fundraiser for the Woodville Lions!

Best friends forever

SPRING VALLEY, WI – From next door neighbors growing up, to now neighbors at the Spring Valley Health and Rehab Center, Sylva Anderson and Betty Larson’s friendship has withstood the test of time. In fact, both Sylva (February 8) and Betty (February 16) will be celebrating their 101st birthdays this month.

Despite their family farms being next door to each other, the two didn’t become friends until about age fourteen when they both attended Spring Valley High School at the location in downtown in the Village that was torn down in 2022.

“We had sixty-four of us in our graduating class,” said Betty. “We’re the only two left. We would have reunions and when people didn’t show up, well, we knew what happened to them then.”

Cards fall to WIAA ranked Mounders, look to rebound this week

0

ELK MOUND, WI – The Cardinals had a tough match-up with the Division Three seventh ranked Mounders here last week. Elk Mound isn’t ranked for nothing and the Mounders showed it. Final score, Elk Mound 64, Valley 14.

The loss dropped the Cardinals to 9-12 overall and 3-8 in the Dunn-St. Croix conference. Valley hosted Durand this past Tuesday and will take on Elmwood/Plum City Friday night. The Cardinals will have some time off before traveling to Boyceville on Thursday, February 20, 2025, in the regular season finale. The Cardinals will find out next week who they will face in the opening round of the WIAA Tournament, and a few wins could make a big difference in their seeding.

The game with the Mounders was rough all the way around for the Cardinals. Valley committed 23 turnovers to just eight for the Mounders. Elk Mound also had 16 steals from the Cardinals while Valley had just three.
