Cardinal girls’ lose epic game to Boyceville in double OT

0

SPRING VALLEY, WI – A loss is a loss, hard to look at it any differently than that. But there are also games that are losses that teams might feel good about how they competed and how they played and battled. Sometimes those games are close battles and sometimes they can be much more split.

Last Friday night the Spring Valley girls’ basketball team had one of those games that ended with a loss but was a heck of a battle. The loss drops the Cardinals to 6-8 overall, 1-5 in the Dunn-St. Croix conference. The Cardinals hosted Ellsworth this past Monday and played at Elmwood-Plum City on Tuesday in a make-up game from earlier this month. Thursday night, the team hosted Glenwood City. The team will play at Colfax on Tuesday, January 28 and host Mondovi on Friday, January 31 as well.

The Cardinals and Bulldogs battled the entire game here last Friday. The Cardinals opened with a 4-0 lead before the Bulldog press gained a 17-10 advantage for Boyceville. Valley battled back to a 25-21 halftime lead.

ROCK ELM, WI – Immediately after Rock Elm was settled in the 1860’s, stores began popping up. One of the earliest known stores in the town was owned by S.J. Fox, who arrived in Rock Elm in 1867, built a log cabin, and opened a general store with $1,000 worth of merchandise.

In Lavern Flanders book, “Look back and Remember: The first fifty years Rock Elm Township area 1861-1911,” the business relationship between Fox, Hawn, and White is described:

“By early 1870 the log store building had become too small for the mercantile trade and in July, Fox and Hawn were putting up a large two-story building to give ample accommodations for their increased business. The upstairs of the new building was to be used as a public hall.
