ELLSWORTH, WI – The regular season wrapped up for the Spring Valley/Elmwood wrestling team here last week in a triangular meet with Ellsworth and Unity with the Cardinals earning a split by losing to Ellsworth but beating Unity in some tough competition.
The Cardinals will enter the WIAA tournament on Saturday when they compete at the WIAA Regionals at Edgar for both team and individuals to try to earn the right to advance to sectionals.
For individuals to advance to sectionals at Ladysmith, they must finish in the top four spots in their weight classes. The Cardinals will be competing against wrestlers from the following schools: Athens, Auburndale, Boyceville, Cadott, Clear Lake, Cornell/Gillman/Lake Holcombe, Durand, Edgar, Glenwood City, Marathon, Stanley-Boyd, Stratford, and Thorp/Owen-Withee. This is a tough Regional to advance from as Stratford, Auburndale, Marathon and Glenwood City are all ranked in the top 10 in the state as teams.
