Even Jakes 100-year-old Aunt Charlette (Sailer) Robledo from her home (where she lives independently) in Bayport, Minnesota came to this benchmark celebration and took the tours in her wheelchair!

The company served a delicious meal of the Sailer’s meat specialties, Sailer’s Sizzlers, their famous award-winning bacon and Pa’s Ring Bologna along with tasty side salads and beverages. In addition to the good eats, there were door prize drawings every half hour along with games and more at the Elmwood store. The store was open for regular business too during the celebration.

Per the Sailer’s website, “In 1923, Frank Sailer Sr., who came to America from Austria at the age of 17, opened a Jack Sprat Food Store on Main Street in Elmwood. A few months after opening the new meat market, Frank Sr., and Marie had a baby boy named Frank Jr. that would eventually take over the business from his father.”

BALDWIN, WI – The Baldwin-Woodville Blackhawks were defeated by the St. Croix Central Panthers (SCC), 54-21. The Blackhawks couldn’t seem to find momentum on either side of the ball in their loss to the Panthers.

Baldwin-Woodville kicked off to SCC to open the competition. The Panthers advanced the ball on the ground across the field in a brisk fashion. SCC opened scoring on a 24-yard rushing touchdown, 7-0. The Blackhawks struggled to move the ball and were forced to punt. SCC controlled possession the rest of the first quarter methodically moving the ball downfield. The Panthers scored again to end the first quarter, 13-0, the point-after was no good.

SCC kicked off to Baldwin-Woodville to follow the Panther score. The Blackhawks fumbled and SCC recovered. The Panthers soon after scored again on a short rushing touchdown, 19-0. Baldwin-Woodville’s offense returned to the field gaining momentum on a long quarterback Cal Smith to Gavin Sell pass and reception but failed to sustain their drive being forced four-and-out. The Panthers also struggled to gain ground on their next possession, punting the ball away which was returned for a 79-yard touchdown., 19-7 Panthers lead. SCC responded with another touchdown of their own closing out the first half, 25-7.

Cardinal volleyball team remains atop the D-SC

0

DURAND, WI – As the regular season is winding down for the Spring Valley volleyball team, the expectations are ramping up. Last week Valley took control of the conference with wins over previously unbeaten Elk Mound and Mondovi. The Cardinals kept their foot on the pedal this past week with a conference win at Durand and combined it with some tough matches at the Amery Invite last weekend to keep honing their skills.

Valley sits with a 10-7 overall record and a 6-0 conference mark and sole possession of first place. With just two matches left in conference play against the two teams at the bottom of the conference, the title is Valley’s to lose, but then again stranger things have happened so let’s not talk about it anymore.

“Amery Invite”
Prescott 2, Spring Valley 0 – The Cardinals topped the Cardinals in this match by scores of 25-14 and 25-12. Valley had 14 kills and 17 attack errors in the match out of 56 attacks. Teams don’t win when they have more errors than kills. Sophomore Addison Nelson had 13 assists on those 14 kills.

Football team recovers against E-PC, showdown with Boyceville today

0

PLUM CITY, WI – How a team responds after a loss is the true testament of their character. The Spring Valley football team rebounded after a tough loss at Cadott with a 27-22 win over Elmwood-Plum City (E-PC) here last week. The Cardinals were in a must-win situation if they want to hold onto a share of the Dunn-St. Croix Conference (D-SC) title, and when it came down to it, they made the plays to win.

The victory over the Wolves moved Valley to 7-1 overall, 5-1 in conference play. That record has the Cardinals in second place behind an undefeated Boyceville squad that comes to the Dam tomorrow night. This game has been on the radar all season long as Boyceville wants the conference title outright and the Cardinals are reluctant to let go of their grasp of the crown.

It wasn’t easy getting to this game though as the Wolves gave the Cardinals all they could handle throughout the game.

WOODVILLE, WI – The Woodville GarageBar has announced plans for an exciting 1st Anniversary Party this weekend on Friday, October 13 and Saturday, 14, 2023. The Party will be including live entertainment on Friday and Saturday night and a Cruisin’ Fall Car Show on Saturday from 9-2 p.m.

The Woodville GarageBar opened on August 31, 2022, and this week was named Best Bar by voters in the Best of Baldwin-Woodville Readers’ Choice awards.

“This past year has been tremendous and we’re so thankful for the support from the local community and the great team we have in place to take care of our customers,” said Jeff Swanson, co-owner of the bar along with his wife, Heather Swanson.

“We believed we could bring delicious food, a great selection of beer and drinks, and an awesome lineup of musical entertainment, and we’re doing just that. But we also believe we’re just getting started. We’ve upped the amount of entertainment this year and have plans for continuing to bring new and fun acts to the GarageBar. We also introduce new limited menu items every month (Burger of the Month) and have brought back our popular Friday Fish Fry (with an offering of cod, catfish or salmon). And we’re giving back to the community and will continue to offer support to local organizations and activities that help make Woodville a special place to live.”

Live musical Entertainment each night of the First Anniversary Party!
Nick Anderson and The Skinny Lovers take to the GarageBar stage on Friday, October 13. Founded in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, this alternative rock/90s band has earned themselves several top honors for their original music. They charted number 1 and number 8 hits on independent radio and have their songs licensed by MTV, E!TV, NETFLIX, Discovery Channel, and more. They have opened for country superstar Jordan Davis, and Sam Llanas (formerly of the Bodeans), and have amassed nearly 400,000 streams on Spotify alone.

Local favorite Crabgrass Band wraps up the weekend on Saturday, October 14. This 5-piece regional band covers country, pop and rock classics and everything from Van Morrison and Neil Diamond to Billy Idol and Billy Joel. They are friends to the bar and the perfect band to help celebrate what has been an incredible first year.

Cruisin’ Fall Car Show on Saturday (9-2 pm)
New this year is the Woodville GarageBar Cruisin’ Fall Car Show, sponsored by the Tri-County Cruz’rs and Gully’s Auto Glass. The show runs from 9-2 pm in downtown Woodville with a pancake feed from 9-11 a.m. at the GarageBar. There will be $250 in cash prizes awarded to the “Best of” winners along with dash plaques and trophies. Prizes will be awarded at 1 p.m.

In addition to the events, the GarageBar will have raffle drawings each evening during the live music with giveaways and other fun items.

Kathy Litzell-Lange Named General Manager
On the heels of being named Best Bar in the region the Woodville GarageBar has officially named Kathy Litzell-Lange as its General Manager. Litzell-Lange has been with the GarageBar team since day one, leveraging her 30+ years in the industry to create the kitchen and bar menus, organize the facilities, and lead the team responsible for delivering the GarageBar promise of an awesome customer experience.

“We found a true partner in Kathy and we’re so fortunate and blessed to have her on our team,” said Swanson. “Getting ready for our anniversary and being named Best Bar, this just seemed like the appropriate time to announce her promotion and to thank her for all she’s done to help guide the GarageBar over this past year. And like I’ve said, we’re just getting started.”
