The community’s donations will also help with service projects the Scouts are working on with the Spring Valley Health and Rehabilitation Center (the nursing home) and the Spring Valley Food Pantry.

The Scouts would also like to thank the Spring Valley Lions Club and Mooney’s Rusty Horse Bar & Grill for providing the bounce houses for our Dam Days fundraiser.

Lastly, the Scouts would like to thank the community that attended the Flag Ceremony on Saturday, September 21, 2024, morning.  It was a rainy but beautiful ceremony, led by Eagle Scout Sam Miller, Cub Scout Pack 145 and the Rickerd-Danielson American Legion Post 227. A Flag Ceremony honors the American flag as the symbol of our country and all of the hopes, dreams, and people it represents. The flag from the Veteran’s War Memorial site was respectfully retired, along with others from the Village, and a new American flag was raised in its place on the new flagpole.

BALDWIN, WI – Western Wisconsin Health (WWH) is excited to announce the addition of Dr. Katrina Victoria, MD, to our medical team. As an Infectious Disease Specialist, Dr. Victoria will provide patients with expert care in diagnosing, managing, and preventing a wide range of infections, a new service at WWH.

Dr. Victoria, originally from Cebu City, Philippines, earned her medical degree from Cebu Institute of Medicine and her Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology from Velez College. She completed her Internal Medicine residency in the Bronx, New York, followed by an Infectious Disease fellowship in New York City. With her deep passion for microbiology, she is excited to bring her expertise to our community.

Nick Berger, Specialty Services Director at WWH, shared his enthusiasm about this new addition: “We are thrilled to welcome Dr. Victoria to our team. Infectious Disease is a rapidly evolving field and having a specialist like Dr. Victoria will be a tremendous asset to our patients and our providers. She will help ensure that our community receives the most up-to-date care in managing complex infections, improving antibiotic use, and educating both patients and staff on prevention.”

Infectious Disease specialists like Dr. Victoria play a crucial role in guiding the use of antibiotics, addressing complex infections, and educating both clinicians and the public. Infectious diseases are caused by organisms such as bacteria, viruses, fungi, or parasites, and while some can be mild, others may require advanced medical care. Common infections like strep throat or flu may be easily managed, but Dr. Victoria’s expertise will be critical in treating more severe or complex conditions such as tuberculosis, HIV, and pneumonia, as well as emerging infections.

“Prevention is Better than Cure,” Dr. Victoria emphasizes, a philosophy she carries from her family of doctors and through her career. She looks forward to collaborating with local healthcare providers and educating the community on prevention techniques, from vaccinations to proper hygiene.

For more information or to schedule an appointment with Dr. Katrina Victoria, please contact Western Wisconsin Health at (715) 684-1111 or visit our website at wwhealth.org.

ELLSWORTH, WI – The Baldwin-Woodville Blackhawks picked up another victory in Week 5 against the Ellsworth Panthers, 32-15, on September 20, 2024, at Fuller-Symes Field.

Ellsworth kicked off to begin the game, and Baldwin-Woodville began their drive deep in their own territory. The Blackhawks struggled to gain momentum and were forced to punt.

Ellsworth’s offense started at their own 21-yardline, but Baldwin-Woodville’s defense made an early statement. Linebacker Gavin Sell forced a fumbled, which defensive back Dane “Train” Veenendall returned for 34-yards for a touchdown. The 2-point conversion by running back Taden Holldorf was good, B-W 8-0.

WOODVILLE, WI – Hey Woodville! This past weekend, Sunday, September 21, 2024, the girls and I (Princesses Jessica Albers, Addisyn Wichelman, and Adeline Haugen) all went to Spring Valley for their 56th Annual Dam Days Celebration that was honoring their Village’s most famous landmark, Crystal Cave.

We took the Troll float and got many compliments on the waterfall and all the cute trolls and their names as we went through the Dam Days Grande Parade. The Spring Valley Lions Club was kind enough to put on a Queen’s Tea for all the attending Sparkle Sisters, despite not having a Court this year.

Throughout the parade, we all saw lots of friends and family, and got to watch the amazing University of Wisconsin – River Falls Marching Falcons Band that has been reformed after 30 years. They even put on a concert after the parade.

Next weekend, we will all head to Warrens for their 51st Annual Cranberry Festival, which will be our last parade until the Anoka Halloween Parade!

Football travels to Cadott Friday after topping Lakers

TURTLE LAKE, WI – There is hardly ever perfection in a football game. Missed blocks, turnovers, penalties, missed tackles or coverages are all things that happen during a game. Some of it is never noticed, some are the difference between winning and losing a game.

The 8th ranked Spring Valley football team didn’t play a perfect game last Friday in Turtle Lake in winning 42-20. But they may have played one of the most perfect quarters.

The Cardinals took their opening kickoff and promptly marched right down the field with little resistance from the defense. Six plays after the kickoff, senior Trevor Forster ran into the end zone for a 15-yard touchdown run. Isaac Koenig’s PAT kick gave the Cardinals an early 7-0 lead, just three minutes into the game.
