SPRING VALLEY, WI – There has been some really steady improvement for the young Spring Valley-Elmwood wrestling team over the course of the season so far. The Cardinals got a good team win in their first conference dual match at home, then followed that up with some good wrestling at a very competitive New Richmond Invitational on Saturday with schools from both Wisconsin and Minnesota.

SV/E 40, Mondovi/Eleva-Strum 35 – The Cardinals knew that every point was going to count as both teams would be surrendering points in forfeit matches.

The Buffaloes took the early lead with a technical-fall win at 190 pounds by Alex Coffey over freshman Connor Wines. But Jack Steinmeyer got a quick 22-second win for the Cards by fall at 215 pounds to put the Cards up 6-5. The match was like that for a while, back-and-forth. Blaine Stevenson beat SV/E sophomore Tyler Vanasse at 285 by fall before freshman Dane O’Meara won by forfeit at 106 to keep the Cardinals ahead 12-11.
